National Recycling Day: How to Celebrate!

National Recycling Day became a US holiday back in 1997. Ever since, it’s become increasingly clear that we all need to do our part to reduce, reuse, and recycle. Here are a few ways to celebrate National Recycling Day on November 15th!

Make a Plan this National Recycling Day

What are your plans for National Recycling Day? Ok, we get it…it’s not exactly as exciting as Halloween or Thanksgiving. But it’s still important to take a moment to reflect on how we’re treating our planet!

So how should you celebrate National Recycling Day this year? We have a few easy tips!

Look at the Everyday Items That Can Be Recycled

We’re all guilty of lazily throwing something in the trash that probably could have been recycled. On National Recycling Day, fight any old habits you’ve fallen into by paying attention to what exactly you’re throwing away.

As you go about your day, be a little more conscious of the waste you create. See if there is anything that you typically throw away that you can actually recycle. Look at food containers, beauty product bottles, shipping packaging…anything and everything!

Here’s a helpful hint: the Superfood Company products you know and love can be recycled! Throw our Superfood Tab tubes into recycling (and of course, do the same for the packaging and shipping boxes, too!).

Our Super Amazing Coffee Pods are also certified recyclable. They are made entirely of #5 polypropylene, which is accepted in 75% of recycling centers. All you have to do is peel the lid off the pod to discard or compost the coffee – once it has cooled down, of course! Then, simply recycle the cleaned out pod wherever #5 polypropylene is accepted.

Limit Waste and Try New Sustainable Practices

Another way to honor National Recycling Day is to try a new sustainable daily practice. It can be overwhelming at first, but on November 15th, you can make a commitment to implement one new earth-friendly practice. Then you can build your sustainable habits from there!

Don’t know where to start? Here are a few ideas:

  • Bring a reusable coffee cup for your morning run to your local coffee shop. Pro tip: when you order the Super Amazing Coffee Kickstart or Ultimate package, you’ll get a reusable mug that is made from biodegradable and naturally organic bamboo fiber! This sustainable and dishwasher-safe 12-ounce Bamboo Mug is BPA-free and has a silicone sleeve and lid that insulates your drink. Plus, it’s way more fun than a boring old paper or plastic coffee cup!
  • When you go grocery shopping, use reusable produce bags, rather than using the plastic ones they provide. You can also bring your own reusable shopping bags to make the shopping process waste-free!
  • Find a purpose to reuse old containers. Turn a glass jar originally used for sauces or jams into a food storage container. A cute candle container can serve as a home decor piece!
  • Bring your own reusable food storage containers to restaurants. That way, if you end up with leftovers to take home, you can use your own container and avoid creating more waste!
