At Home Spa Day: DIY It

DIY OATMEAL & HONEY FACE MASK

When it comes to your skin, oatmeal and honey are the best natural superfoods for restoring moisture. Purchasing a fancy oatmeal face mask can certainly cost you into the double digits, and the pre-made stuff has all kinds of extra preservatives in the formula. Make your own face mask using this DIY formula!

Ingredients:

  • 30 drops Essential Oil of your choice
  • 1/4 cup oats
  • 1/3 cup hot water
  • 1 tablespoon honey

Recipe:

  1. Blend oats and water together in blender. Mixture should be a bit texturized (lumpy), but mostly blended.
  2. Add honey to mixture. Blend again until well blended.
  3. Add your favorite essential oils. Blend again until well blended! Refrigerate until you’re ready to use.

Directions:

  • Wet your face with warm water to open up your pores.
  • Rub mask onto face. Let set for 5-10 minutes. Relax!
  • Wash mask off with warm water and washcloth. Moisturize after for radiant skin!

DIY EXFOLIATING LAVENDER SUGAR SCRUB

Lavender naturally has anti-inflammatory and calming benefits. Something lavender is totally essential for your at-home spa day! This sugar scrub is super easy to make, and it’s an Earth-friendly alternative to exfoliating body scrubs with plastic beads. Check out our recipe below!

  • 1 cup Sugar
  • 1 teaspoon fresh lavender buds
  • 1/4 cup coconut oil
  • 10 drops drops lavender essential oil

Recipe:

  1. Soften coconut oil in microwave.
  2. Add lavender essential oil drops. Let cool until just before the oil re-solidifies.
  3. Mix together with sugar and fresh lavender buds.

Directions:

  • Take a warm shower or bath. Relax!
  • Wet skin. Grab a spoonful or handful of the sugar scrub and rub into skin.
  • Rinse off with warm water.
  • Moisturize after!

DIY CONDITIONING BANANA HAIR MASK

While banana technically isn’t considered a superfood, it’s one of the most nourishing and moisturizing fruits – especially for your hair! Banana helps your scalp to naturally restore moisture to your hair, and adds a gorgeous shine. Here’s our favorite recipe for a DIY banana hair mask.

Ingredients:

Recipe:

  • Begin by peeling and freezing one banana.  (Hot tip: using a frozen banana helps the mixture from getting too mushy!)
  • Blend frozen banana blend until smooth.
  • Add the egg whites, creamer, and honey. Blend again until smooth.

Directions:

  • Apply blended mixture to your hair from roots to tips.
  • Allow to set for 20 minutes.
  • Rinse hair, then shampoo and condition regularly.

Best spa smells for candles: eucalyptus, peppermint, tea tree, vanilla, and lavender!

AROMATHERAPY CANDLE

The best part about the spa might just be all those incredible, soothing smells. Spas often burn aromatherapy candles or essential oil diffusers with eucalyptus, tea tree, lavender, and orange essential oils. You can totally recreate all these awesome scents at home! Check out this aromatherapy candle we love from Target.

Ultimately, I think the experience that makes me feel most pampered at the spa — beyond the massage — is getting into that amazing plush robe and slippers they offer you! Soft, cozy, and fluffy are three adjectives that I use to describe my ideal clothing. To complete your at-home spa day, make sure you’re prepped for comfy bathrobe time!

Prep for your Spa Day: The Day Before

Set Expectations.

Block off some “you time”. Make sure your friends and family know you’re tuning out of a little bit. It’s hard to feel and stay relaxed if you’re constantly being interrupted!

Charge your Speaker.

If there’s other noise at home, it’s easy to get out of the spa-zone. Charge your speaker in advance so you can properly block out the outside world during spa day.

Prep some spa snacks.

Spa day goals: pure body, and pure mind. Prep some healthy snacks to ensure your insides feel just as good as your outsides! Cucumbers and hummus, watermelon, and yummy lunch wraps are all awesome options.

At Home Spa Day: The Big Day!

Power Off.

Take some time off of social media and work. Try reading, listening to a podcast, or listening to calming music instead. Focus on your mind, your body, and your needs — not what the world needs from you.

Set the Mood.

Light some candles, play some relaxing tunes, and create the ultimate at-home spa environment. Block out any sort of noise or needs from the world outside your “spa”.

Commit!

Just like checking in to the spa – commit to only things that make you feel calm! It’s your day to celebrate you and treat yourself. For many of us, relaxation isn’t easy. Funnily enough, it can take a lot of work to feel relaxed. Commit to a distraction-free day of self-indulgence.
